What’s Up the Week of Feburary 18th?

Hello everyone! I hope that you have all had a great and restful holiday weekend and are enjoying your Monday off. I also hope that everyone remembered to read chapter two of Animal Farm.

Like last week, this will be a shortened week, which means that once again you only have four days to do your vocab homework and get ready for your quiz, which will be on Friday. Make sure that you continue to keep up with your vocab homework because it’ll continue to help your grade improve and help you with studying as well!

We’re going to continue looking at some commonly misused words. This week we’re going to focus on “to/two/too” so if you’ve ever found yourself wondering which one to use, now you’ll know! Your quiz over this concept will be on Thursday.

We’re going to continue reading Animal Farm and will read the next three chapters in class and for homework.

Tuesday we’re going to get more practice with close-reading by looking at each of the Seven Commandments of Animalism and answering some questions.

Wednesday you’re going to see a close-reading exercise again. This time we’ll be looking closely at some of the words spoken by Squealer, the fastest talking pig on the farm. This is not only going to give you more practice with close-reading but will also help you become more comfortable in dealing with ethos, pathos and logos and will help us look at the way that the pigs are using language to control the other animals on the farm. The use of language to manipulate and control is going to be one of our main focuses when talking about Animal Farm and will be the topic for your Animal Farm essay, so make sure to start taking notes and looking out for those things now.

Thursday we’ll be reading Animal Farm chapter five and doing a short piece of writing from the point of view of one of the animals on the farm. It’ll be a good way to let your creativity shine!

We’ll finish up the week by going to the library and doing a little bit of research. Research on what you ask? Well, we’re going to be taking a closer look at the Russian Revolution and some of the key players in Russia’s history. What does this have to do with Animal Farm you ask? We’ll soon find out!

I think this is going to be a great week! I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
